Ayden was recently star of the week in her classroom. She got to be the center of attention for the week. Her teacher does something special each day for the star. One day Ayden got to share her "all about me" poster and pictures of her family and activities we do together. One day everyone says an word that describes her and her teacher prints it off on a paper. On the last day they get to have a celebration where the star sits in the apparently beloved "twirly" chair and listen as her classmates read letters they wrote to her. They were funny little letters with compliments and statements about the things Ayden likes to do and questions for her. There were a lot of comments about how fun her life looks and that she is lucky she gets to do fun things with her family. A lot of talk about Harry Potter, camping, hiking, having little sisters etc. It was fun to listen to the letters. One kid even wrote that he wishes he lived with us. Of all our kids Ayden is the hardest to please and she thinks she has it pretty bad so I hope she listened to those kids! He teacher compiled them all in a book so Ayden can keep them forever. She also got to share a treat of her choice. She chose cupcakes. I just made some yellow cake from a box with chocolate frosting from a container but all the kids were saying they were the best cupcakes they had ever had and wanted the recipe. It cracked me up.
Ayden also recently received the character award for being compassionate in her class. Paramount Elementary focuses on being "kids of character" and they highlight 6 different character traits throughout the year. The teachers choose one kid from their class for each character that they highlight. Ayden's teacher does it a little differently and has the students vote. So Ayden's classmates voted her as the student in their class that most exemplifies compassion. She was very happy to be chosen and we were certainly proud of her. I am glad that she knows how to behave and that she treats her classmates kindly and has concern for them. Ayden has always been one that doesn't like other people to hurt in anyway so it is the perfect character for her to receive.
They have a bulletin board where they post each kid chosen for the character.
We have yet been able to get a decent picture in the schools gym. This at least shows Ayden on the stage after she received her certificat from her principal.
