In the beginning of June Brad and I were able to take off for a couple of days and travel to Seattle to be a part of my Brother-in-law, Stephens, movie premier of Duck Beach to Eternity at the Seattle Film Festival. We had a great time being childless for a few days and loved being with family and friends. It was a fun experience to be there to support Stephen and Hillary. Stephen produced it with his partner and another producer. Hillary did a lot of the graphic work for it and helped during the filming process also.
The movie is about Mormon Singles. It follows 4 different Mormon singles at a "mormon spring break" in Duck, NC and explores their desire to find a spouse and the pressure for them to get married and the struggles or issues that can arise from that. It is highly entertaining and educational. It was honest and at times frustrating. It was fun to watch it with a theatre full of people who are not really familiar with the Mormon culture. I think they really enjoyed the glimpse it gave them into a culture that can seem guarded and private. After the movie, they open it up to a question and answer session with the producers and some of the individuals followed in the movie. All the responses were very positive and the movie was very well received. I believe they are in negotiations for distribution so keep an eye out for the movie.
This is the Harvard Exit Theatre where the movie premier was. My parents used to live in Seattle while my Dad was in Grad school and this is the theatre they used to come to and watch independent films. Kinda funny they came back 34 years later to watch their Son-in-Laws movie at the same place.
Brad, myself and my parents infront of the cute house Hillary rented for the week. They stayed it in with some of the cast and the producers and their families. It was a really great house, in a really nice neighborhood.
The view from the back of the house. Lovely.
This is from the Q&A after the first showing. The first two from the left are two of the people followed in the movie, Melissa and Ryan. Then the three producers, Laura, Stephen and Hadleigh and a Film festival employee.
Some of the group who came to support the producers.
My parents lived in this beautiful home for a year while they were in Seattle for school. The owner of the home at the time taught school at an Indian Reservation and had young married students live in it while he was gone to take care of it. It really was quite beautiful.
My dad is the bird man. Birds love him. This Seagull is eating out of his hand, it really wouldn't leve him alone.
Amy, my sisters sister-in-law, whom we also claim as family at the gum wall.
Brad sticking him gum on the gum wall. The gum wall really freaked me out and brought out the little bit of germaphobe that I am.
Melissa, Amy and I hanging out in Seattle.
A view from the Columbia Center, the tallest building in Seattle, of Seattle. We went to the observation deck but was not about to pay $15 a person to look out their window and after dealing with a grumpy employee and having security called we made our way to the private club on the upper level where Amy sweet talked them to let us look out their window.
Can't go to Seattle without a trip to Pikes Marketplace.
We enjoyed a yummy breakfast at Lowell's.
Myself, Hillary, Amy, Melissa and Mom.
This is the second screening of Duck Beach to Eternity with quite an impressive line to get in. Both the screenings were full. They really should have planned more for them.
Waiting to watch it again.
The second Q and A
My great Parents.
A view of the Mt. Rainier from the airplane. Where Brad and I had the best 10 year anniversary trip ever.
