Star Sightings

Okay, I admit it, I am a huge dork for doing this. Especially on a Saterday afternoon. To my defense, it is yucky outside and Brad is at work. And yet I know there are still better things for me to do and that is what makes me a dork. Yesterday I heard on the news that Evil Knievel died and it reminded me of the time I worked at a phone center and was talking to someone named Robbie Knievel and I asked him if he was Evil Knievel. He told me that he was his son and I thought that was pretty cool. I also spoke with President George W. Bush's security guard and found a way to get a treadmill technician to an air force base so he could fix the Presidents treadmill before they took off overseas. That made me think about all the other encounters I have had with famous people so I thought it would be funny to document all of it. Here it goes in no particular order but just to warn you, some of them are pretty lame.

Margaret Thatcher- I met her at a grocery store and actually had a conversation with her about ice cream.
Dr. Phil Mcgraw- Brad and I had a long conversation with this dude.
Dr. Robert Rey- I met him at church in L.A while I was visiting my Brother. I was chasing my nephew Axel in the hallway and he was doing the same thing with his kids.

Steve Young-Once again, I met him at church. He had a house in Park City for a time and would come to our ward when he was in town. Once he called me a little sweety and gave me his autograph.

Jaleel White (Steve Urkel)- I met him at the grocery store by the butcher. He really wasn't that bad looking in person.

Tony Danza- I also met him at he grocery store on a couple of occasions actually. One time when I was younger and we were in line behind him and he made small talk with my mom and another time when I was there by myself once again behind him in line. (Man it seems like if you want to see someone go to the Albertson's or church in Park City).

Mitt Romney- Here it goes again, I met him at Church in Park City (my sister has baby sat for one of his grandkids too).
Air Supply- A kid I dated knew them and I met them at a beauty pageant they were playing in.

Robert Redford- I think I have met him a couple of times but one I remember is when we were hiking in Sundance and he passed us on the trail. He was polite and said hello to us.

Fabio- Brad and I saw him driving in a car next to us on the freeway in L.A.

Mrs. Fields- This one is kinda stupid but I grew up in Park City with Mrs. Fields kids and saw her on occasion before she moved. I have been in her closet and tried on her clothes from the 80's and 90's. My dad has done some architecture for her and her ex husband. Her daughter even called me the "B" word after she was eying Brad at a mutual friends wedding and found out he was my husband.

Cheech Marin- He MCed a couple of things at our high school.

Dennis Haskins- (principal Richard Belding on saved by the bell)- He was dating a friend of my parents and did an assembly at my high school. I shook his hand.

Karl Malone- He fell on me at a Jazz game once when we had front row seats.

Michael Jordan- I saw him golfing. I also saw the whole Bulls team (accept for Michael Jordan and Dennis Rodman) get off a bus at a hotel in Park City.

Julianne Hough
(dancing with the stars two time winner)- My sister would probably be annoyed I put her here but she is a star now. Her father and Step mom live in my parents ward, so I have seen her at church. (once again, church. I have also seen one of Donny Osmond's Brothers at church but I don't know which one).

Hilary Swank-Brad and I passed her while walking down Rodeo Drive.

One of the Olsen Twins
- We saw one of them run into a car and drive off while paparazzi was chasing her in L.A.

So there you have it. If you made it through this, now I want to hear some of the stars you have sighted!

I'm proud that I met Chris Ledoux and shook hands with him at the Minidoka Fairgrounds after his performance. He signed my hat and was very nice to me, considering I didn't quiet fit in(I had long hair and was wearing a Metallica T-shirt) I have always been a huge Chris Ledoux fan since that encoutner because of the impression he made on me. I was 15and my two favorite bands were Metallica and Chris Ledoux. I cried when he died a couple years ago and Metallica I could care less about now.

You think Park City is a place for star gazing, you should check out the MINIDOKA FAIR sometime. YEEEEE HAAAAW!!!

And Brad...aren't you supposed to be working?????? Not leaving 52 comments on your wifes post!!!!
That is actually pretty cool, that is a lot of famous people!!!

You say "walking down Rodeo Drive" like everyone just does that. I saw all of Donny Osmond's family (him and his wife and children)in my ward in Vegas. They came to church in their limo, and I don't know why they ended up in the ghetto. Cause I lived in the ghetto. It wasn't Park City.

Marie Osmond used to be my friend's Visiting Teacher, those were some pretty funny stories she told. Being from Provo / Orem I have of course seen all the Osmonds. I saw Stevie Nicks and David Duchovny in NYC. I know there are more but I can't remember, and not nearly as many as you have! That's awesome that you would post about it, hilarious actually. I loved it!

Oh boy...this was funny. Thanks for making me laugh. I've seen a few famous people, but I'd have to think about it for a little while. Maybe I'll post it on my blog. DJ met Richard Simmons at Icon. We have a picture of them, and I think Richard is hugging him a little too tight.

Jenni said...

Oh yeah, I met Richard Simmons at Icon too. I forgot about that. I also forgot that I met Jared from Subway at a 5k run in September.

Holy Crap girl!! That is a lot of people. Since you have a such a listing, can I use you as my "star" cause I got nothin'.

Kim said...

Wow I am pretty impressed, I guess it pays to grow up in Park City, who knew that many stars had been to Utah.

Steve is rarely interested in a blog, but he was fascinated by your long long long list of star sightings. My list is much smaller. I saw John Laroquette (the sleazeball from Night Court) at a bookstore in Sun Valley. I also met Jared the Subway guy. I was working out with my cousin and her trainer in LA and saw the large woman from the Drew Carrey show working out right by us. I'm not sure if I would hire her trainer!! (sorry that was mean) I had special passes right up next to the stage at an outdoor music festival in Santa Barbara featuring Cyprus Hill and George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars and others I can't remember. The members of Cyprus Hill got down right in my face and it totally freaked me out. I'm sure there are a few other random ones, but they obviously didn't leave a lasting impression. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Oh, I just remembered my favorite star sighting. I went to a small concert at a bar in SLC with some friends who were fans of this small band from their hometown in North Carolina. The name of the band was Ben Folds Five. It was a really small concert and at the end of the show my friends dared me to go up onstage and play the piano. So I jumped up and started playing that little duet that everyone knows. As I was playing the lead singer and pianist came back out and sat down at the piano and played the other part of the duet with me. That was pretty cool. Then the band became kind of popular, so it became even more cool.

sorry about the really long comment. It looks longer after you publish it!

oh yes, I remembered that DJ Jazzy Jeff was the DJ on our cruise we took a few years ago.

Hey...don't steal my celebrity. If you didn't think of him first, you don't get him. Just kidding. You're a better person after having met Richard Simmons.

Hillary said...

Wow I didn't even know of some of those. Now you have me thinking about my list.

that's really A LOT of star sightings. our song (wade and me) is a really sappy air supply song, but i guess they're all really sappy.

Thanks everyone for leaving your comments, it was fun to read them all. Wow, a lot of you have seen the Osmond's. My mom lived in some apartments in Provo that they owned and she said Jimmy used to try to run them over on his tricycle and they would practice their songs in the pool house.
Lisa, sorry I took your star, but you know, it wasn't even your star in the first place. :)
Yes, Michelle, I can be your star.
Mom, I remember Merlin Olsen. I just never really knew who he was so I guess it didn't stick. Remember when you saw Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Afflec making out?
Lyric, I loved your long comment. You have had some pretty cool star sightings yourself. I love the piano one.
Natalie, I think that is awesome that DJ Jazzy Jeff was your DJ. Who knew he didn't move on to bigger better things.
Hillary, I bet you have more then me. You always saw a ton of people during Sun Dance.
Thanks again everyone, leave another comment if you remember more!

This was totally funny to read... I'm a little behind the game, but your air supply one made me laugh. I waited on one of the Air Supply guys at the little resteraunt I worked at in Midway... he had a very "I'm a star" attitude. I also waited on President Monson and his family (he's famous, right?). He did not have an attitude :) I've met lots of other through my dad who is a sound mixer for films/commercials and stuff. Probably the one I remember the most is Kristen Dunst when she was still pretty young... it was right after she was in Little Women.

This is too funny!!! I don't know if this counts, but if anyone saw the Bachelor this season, they will know Jenny, the Suns Dancer (she was one of the final two girls). Well, James and I saw her at the mall this weekend.
Honestly, other than that I haven't seen anyone famous. I'm jealous of you!
